Lufthansa Airline is the biggest airline of Germany. It tops the list of being world’s fifth largest airline in terms of overall passengers. The airline operates flight services over 209 destinations in more than 80 countries worldwide. Teaching there’s no better way to fly than Lufthansa, Germany’s best carrier has become Europe’s favourite airline.
Lufthansa was founded by Jurgen Weber, Wolfgang Mayrhuber, Stefan Lauer and Stephan Gemkow. It was established on January 6th, 1926 in Berlin. The word “Luft” means air in German, and Hansa is named after the Hanseatic League that was a powerful medieval trading group. Originally, Lufthansa was known as Deutsche Luft Hansa Aktiengesellschaft. Later, Ajtuebgesekkscgaft fur Luftverkehrsbedarf was renamed as Deustsche Lufthansa Aktiengesellschaft on August 6th, 1954. Finally, on May 15th, 1953, Lufthansa Airlines kicked off its operations in Europe.
Later, the Germany’s biggest airline extended its routes and services to Southeast Asia and Far East beyond Bangkok, Thailand to Hong Kong and Tokyo. After a year gap, Lufthansa added cities like Nigeria, Lagos and Johannesburg. Shortly after that, the airline started services for South America.
Remarkably, in 1997, Lufthansa, air Canada, Thai Airways, Scandinavian Airlines, and United Airlines united to form the Star Alliance. That became the world’s first multilateral airline alliance soon. Shortly after that Air Once tried to become partner airline of Lufthansa airways. And nearly all Air One flights have code sharing agreements with Lufthansa Airlines.

Lufthansa launched an online connectivity service “Connexion by Boeing” for passengers. The service is first of its kind in Europe. But its routes haven’t decided yet. However, it is expected to have started by the end of winter in 2009 or probably in the beginning of 2010.
Recently, Lufthansa has started offering wider choice of beverages. Coffee connoisseurs can pick and choose from a wider choice of their favourite hot beverage on Lufthansa flights, especially the passengers going out of Frankfurt and Munich to German domestic and most European destinations. An automatic vending machine with appreciably greater choice of hot drinks has been installed. There passengers can have from Black coffee, cappuccino, espresso, marocchino, espresso macchiato, latte macchiato, Wiener Melange, café au lait, hot chocolate to diverse sorts of tea. These facilities are offered free as a ‘pick-me-up’ to passengers in Economy and Business Class before boarding. No other airline in the world offers a similar service.
Lufthansa categories services in First, Economy and Business classes. Seats are allocated upon passenger demand. Each seat of Lufthansa is adjustable up to two meters. There is a laptop power outlet along with other facilities. Passengers are given in-flight entertainment system. However, this service is generally made available on long-haul Lufthansa flights. Passengers are served complimentary beverages and snacks, while a great variety of delicious dishes are offered on demand.
Lufthansa also operates lounges. They are of four types: First Class, Business, Senator and Welcome Lounges.
Lufthansa has begun a weekly two-day freighter flight from Frankfurt to the city of Hyderabad. It has been done in a view to expand its presence in the Indian metropolis as well. It's airline in the world to have started freighter service in southern India. Also, it likely to launch another freighter service later in a few months expects to control the cargo load.
For Lufthansa, opportunity is on a role of securing prospect, and the Germany's national carrier knows it better how to retain its position largest in Europe and biggest Germany.
