United Airlines is the world’s third largest airline by revenue-passenger-miles. It’s the national carrier of the United States of America. It is a subsidiary of UAL Corporation. It’s also the fourth largest airline by total passengers transported.

United Airlines was established on March 28th, 1931. Its corporate office is located at 77 West Wacker Drive in the Chicago Loop in Chicago. United Airlines launched its First Modern Frequent Flyer programme in May 1981. Later in 1998, along with Delta Airlines, it introduced a marketing partnership which included a reciprocal redemption agreement between SkyMiles and Mileage Plus programmes and shared lounges. Both these airlines have attempted to forge even a code-share relationship.

United Airlines employed over 48, 000 employees and operates more than 359 aircrafts. It has also signed a contract for 292 regional jet aircrafts, including 38 Embraer EMB 170’s and 100 Bombardier CRJ700’s that brings number of 652 aircraft in all. Its fleet inducts aircrafts like McDonnell Douglas DC-10and several Boeing aircraft, Boeing 727, the Boeing 727-200, Boeing 767 and Boeing 777.

The Chicago-based airline offers international first lounges across the world. These lounges are located at various airports i.e., Chicago-O’Hare, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, New York-JFK, San Francisco, Tokyo-Narita and Washington-Dulles. Also, there is a Red Carpet Club which includes 35 lounges in 28 major airports around the world. United Airlines is co-founding member of the Star Alliance with Air Canada, Lufthansa, SAS and Thai Airways.
